Learn to see the torso with a fully three-dimensional vision, and explore a pallet of gentle hands-on techniques to deeply affect this area of the body. This workshop will focus on working with the client in a supine position, which provides the greatest variety of opportunities for working integrally on the many structures and layers within the torso.
In addition to the "surface" layers of skin, muscles, fascia and bones, the torso houses internal compartments, organs, tubes, sphincters, pressure differentials, double-membranes, sliding surfaces, and ligamentous tethers that all must work in concert to facilitate healthy functioning. In this class you will learn the anatomy and relationships of these structures, and practice techniques to visualize, palpate and therapeutically affect them.
A variety of hands-on techniques will be introduced, including rhythmic movements, counter-compressions, visceral, craniosacral and myofascial approaches. The implications and interplay of these techniques as they apply to the torso will be discussed. Most of the techniques can be effectively performed by working through lightweight clothing or through the top sheet of a draped client.
